Coming from a small town was really difficult when it came down to getting the exposure I needed. Even though I was hours away from little ol' Pelham, Ga, they made it feel like home. If I could do it all over again, I would. Coaches and staff do more than “just” enough, and if you become a part of their family, you will definitely see that they go above and beyond just for the kids to have a successful future.
After joining the Metros, I became comfortable with speaking in front of people, making lifelong relationships, and really learning how to play at an elite level. Mistakes happen, and so does failure, but the Metros taught me that the only time you fail is when you let yourself stay down and that being strong is having the courage to pick yourself up in spite of the situation. I owe it all to the experiences I had with the Metros, and the mentors I met along the way.
Playing for the Metros made a big difference in how and who I was being recruited by. My name wasn't really out there because I came from a small school and town, so college coaches didn't know who I was. When I started playing AAU with the Metros, a lot of things changed. The Metros weren't the first AAU team I played with. At first, I didn't like the idea of it at all because I felt like I would be letting my coach and teammates down that I had been with for about four or five years. The Metros made me feel right at home and that is what eased my transition into it. It took me a tournament or two to getting used to it but I finally realized my potential. The point I'm trying get across is that the Metros are the way to go!!!
Playing with the Metros gave me exposure to being on a top team and all that comes with it. If you've had success with another program and want to join the Metros, I think it'd be a great idea. You wouldn't be looking to win games because you’re already used to that but, let me assure you: There is NO summer team, AAU team anywhere, ANYWHERE that has your back through thick and thin like the Metros. We are more than a basketball team or organization, WE ARE FAMILY, and that’s for life. You'd learn so much more outside of basketball if you joined the Metros, and that’s what I love about them so much. They care more about you past what you do on the court. When you get older, you’ll see very quickly that not everyone will care for you like that and in this day and age that type of support is hard to find.
